Pastor – Reverend Cyrus L. Thornton
CYRUS L. THORNTON was born in Jacksonville, Florida to Yuwonga Thornton and Roger Thornton. He made a personal profession of faith in Christ as Savior and Lord, and was baptized, at an early age. At the age of sixteen, he began his public ministry of preaching at the Dayspring Baptist Church, under the watchful eyes of his former Pastor Moses Javis.
Many and diverse speaking opportunities, both within and beyond Dayspring Baptist Church, helped Pastor Thornton to rapidly and progressively develop in preaching and teaching. Likewise, these years of assisting in Dayspring and ministering to his fellow young people trained him in fundamental aspects of spiritual leadership.
With a rare anointing that powerfully impacts the lives of people from every walk of life; his empowering and life changing messages give profound insight, and strategies to help people position themselves to overcome and outlast the challenges that continue to hinder them from walking in total victory. Those who hear his messages are reassured of their individual value and renewed in their determination to grab a hold of everything that God has planned for their lives.
Pastor Thornton is the former Pastor of Calvary Baptist Church of Blythewood, South Carolina. Building on a great foundation, God continued to nurture and develop Pastor Thornton’s leadership and the ministries of Calvary by adding to the church daily such as should be saved during his six-year tenure.
Pastor Thornton matriculated through the Duval County School System with honors and then received his undergraduate education at Benedict College, majoring in Interdisciplinary Studies graduating in May 2014. Currently he plans to pursue his Masters of Divinity Degree with a concentration in Theological Studies at Erskine Theological Seminary.
Over the course of Pastor Thornton’s pastorate, his love for God’s Word, the church, and lost people have been obvious to both the membership of Second Olivet Missionary Baptist Church, and the larger church community. This has resulted in him balancing his pastoral responsibilities with speaking engagements in revivals, conferences, and other church events around the Greater Syracuse area and across the country. This includes denominational service on the local, state, and national levels.
On October 27, 2007, Pastor Thornton married his best friend, the former Temeka D. Suber. They are the proud parents of four Alexys Clark, Aleysha Clark, Malcolm Clark, and Katie Thornton.
On August 20, 2014, Second Olivet Missionary Baptist Church of Syracuse, New York, ended a search for a pastor when the church called Pastor Cyrus L. Thornton as pastor. Pastor Thornton prayerfully accepted God’s call to be the next shepherd to lead Second Olivet Missionary Baptist Church, Syracuse, New York.
Pastor Thornton’s mission statement is: ‘To know God and to make him known to others’.
